This weekend was a little hurried and harried. I immensely enjoyed presenting at SQL Saturday #48! I got to meet one of my co-workers face-to-face for the first time and any time I get to spend some time with K. Brian Kelley (Blog | @kbriankelley) is always a treat.
In the rush, I didn’t have time for a haircut before I left for Waltham to deliver From Zero To SSIS in cooperation with Boston SQL Training – the first ever SSIS course written cover-to-cover by me! I went shopping earlier and while checking out asked the lady behind the counter where I could find a good barber shop. She directed me to Lakeview Hair Company and said “they take walk-ins.”
I stopped in and was immediately greeted by Mark. He shook my hand and introduced himself, then asked how I wanted my increasingly-pointy-hair cut. Mark looks a little like Robert Carlyle – the actor who plays Dr. Rush on Stargate Universe. We engaged in conversation and, once Mark learned I was up here to deliver some SSIS training, he asked some very pointed questions about open source and database technology. As I was leaving, he confirmed my suspicions that he “dabbles” in MySQL and computers.
The barber is a database guy. Who knew? He’s also a businessman who executes his craft with precision and actively networks. I left my email address and grabbed a card with his information.
Oh, and the haircut? Excellent.

Geez Andy, That was nice of you. Thanks for the mention. It was great to meet you and I hope to see you when you get up this way again. Mark
