2010 Goals Review

Introduction

Earlier this year, I responded to Tim Ford’s (Blog / Twitter) tag (in a post about 2010 Resolutions and Themeword) with 2010 Themeword and Goals. Let’s see how I did.

Resolutions

1. I need to take better care of Andy.

On this, I failed. I took even worse care of myself than before. I have to address this in 2011. You can help by pinging me on Twitter (@AndyLeonard) every day in 2011 and ask me if I’ve exercised today.

2. I want to continue to serve the SQL Server community in several ways; including writing and serving as an advisor for user groups and community organizations.

On this, I believe I met my goal. I may have exceeded it with SQLPeople. Time will tell.

3. There will be CTPs for SQL Server vNext in 2010 – I want to learn everything I can about the new and improved features.

On this, I could have done better. My day job kept me pretty busy this year and this cut into my “play time”. That will change in the new year. More on this in an upcoming blog post.

ThemeWord

My themeword for 2010 was Mentor. I believe I achieved this in several professional arenas. Even though I stepped aside as a PASS Regional Mentor, I continue to serve as a mentor for the technical community. I even helped restart the Roanoke Valley SQL Server Users Group after I stepped aside.

For 2011…

I’m going to stick with the spirit of those 2010 resolutions.

  1. Take care of Andy.
  2. Serve the community.

More on this next year! Happy New Year!

  1. I know I learned a lot from you. Whether or not you knew that you were my mentor is up for debate, but you can definitely say you succeeded in that.

  2. Hi Andy, Maybe we can setup a buddy system and ping each other weekly about to see if we both exercised. Let me know if you are interested. I had a hard time making it out to the gym in 2010.

  3. Best of luck, Andy, and hope you have a great 2011.
One word of advice on #1, do something every day. Doesn’t have to be running, but walking, or something 15 minutes a day. Make it a rule and I am sure you will feel better.
