Servant-Leader: Kevin Hazzard

I’ve written, tweeted, and had several conversations recently about leading and serving. Pictured above is my friend and brother Kevin Hazzard (Blog | @KevinHazzard) at this past Saturday’s Richmond Code Camp (photo used by permission from Brock Barnett, another servant-leader and founder of MaconIT in Richmond VA).

The Developer and SQL Server communities are filled with servant-leaders. I bet you know some.

  • They don’t seek the spotlight… at least not for themselves – rather they seek to elevate those around them.
  • They don’t compete. And when others compete with them, they most often remain silent.
  • They are humble.
  • They serve simply for the honor of serving.

Want to find the leaders in our community? Stop looking on ballots. Start looking in janitorial closets.

  1. As a cadet corporal at The Citadel used to say to us when we demonstrated that we had it together and got it right, "Outstanding!"
