Training Description
A Day of SSIS was developed by Andy Leonard to train technology professionals in the fine art of using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to build data integration and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) solutions.
The training is focused around lectures and emphasizes a practical approach.
Target Audience
The target audience for this training is database professionals, application developers, and business intelligence practitioners interested in acquiring or expanding their existing SSIS skill set.
Prerequisites
No experience with SQL Server or SQL Server Integration Services is required before attending this training.
It is helpful (but not required) that students possess some knowledge of and experience with relational databases. SQL Server knowledge / experience will be more helpful than experience and knowledge with other technologies.
Training Objectives
At the conclusion of the training, attendees will have been exposed to:
- Using SSIS to develop data integration solutions.
- Using SSIS to load a database table.
- Troubleshooting real-world SSIS Data Flow Task errors.
- Deploying SSIS Solutions.

I enjoyed the presentation immensely. As a first time attendee to any "precon", I was a little bit uncertain about one thing: "should I bring my laptop?" It was unclear if computers would be provided so I did bring my work laptop (which I felt appropriate as this precon was paid for by work and there was an off-chance I might need to be called in so I had it on hand just in case). I almost didn’t bring any and I feel I’d have lost a little bit had I not. I was running SSIS 2008 and got to see that 95% of what was shown/demo’ed was applicable in the older version (we’re upgrading soon, but until then…).
I just wanted to point out that a note along the lines of "Laptops/Computers are not provided for attendees, but not required. If bringing a laptop, be advised that wi-fi access may be provided, but not guaranteed. It would be best if you wish to perform some of the exercises on your own machine as the instructor does them, that you have the software already installed on your machine (Express versions can be found <here>.)"
