I’ve written, tweeted, and had several conversations recently about leading and serving. Pictured above is my friend and brother Kevin Hazzard (Blog | @KevinHazzard) at this past Saturday’s Richmond Code Camp (photo used by permission from Brock Barnett, another servant-leader and founder of MaconIT in Richmond VA).
The Developer and SQL Server communities are filled with servant-leaders. I bet you know some.
- They don’t seek the spotlight… at least not for themselves – rather they seek to elevate those around them.
- They don’t compete. And when others compete with them, they most often remain silent.
- They are humble.
- They serve simply for the honor of serving.
Want to find the leaders in our community? Stop looking on ballots. Start looking in janitorial closets.

As a cadet corporal at The Citadel used to say to us when we demonstrated that we had it together and got it right, "Outstanding!"
Wow, Andy. Thank you sir. You made my day. 🙂
Amen Andy! Amen! Leaders see something that needs doing and DO it!
