One Way to Create Login Credentials

In the age of password managers, like LastPass, I no longer remember passwords. Instead, my password manager remembers them for me. I’ve found another use for password managers: generating the username portion of a username-password login.

When it’s time to create the credential, I use the LastPass plugin’s “Generate Secure Password” function:

I copy the password to the clipboard by clicking the built-in Copy icon:

I can hear you thinking, “So what, Andy? That’s not a big deal.” You’re correct. The part that may be different (for some of you, at least) is that I paste the value into the username field:

I repeat this process for the password field, of course.

I find this useful for sites that store a credential’s “display name” attribute separately from the “username” attribute.
