In this post, I explain how to add the Integration Services extension to Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Community Edition.

First, install Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Community Edition. Then…

Add the SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022+ Extension

There is a lot of exciting news to announce!

SSIS Extension Renamed

First, the SSIS extension for Visual Studio 2022 has been renamed from SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022 to SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022+.

The extension formerly known as SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022
Now known as SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022+

Now Available with Visual Studio 2026 Insiders

Second, the updated extension – released 14 Oct 2025 – now works with Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Community Edition!

One Way to Install the SSIS extension in Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Community Edition

Start Visual Studio 2026 Insiders Community Edition. When the splash screen displays, click the “Continue without code” button:

When the VS2026 IDE (Integrated Development Environment) displays:

  1. Click the Extensions dropdown menu
  2. Click “Manage Extensions”
  3. In the Extension Manager, enter “Integration Services” on the “Browse” tab
  4. Click the “Install” button for “SQL Server Integration Services Projects 2022+ version 2.0:

Save the extension file:

Navigate to the saved extension file and execute the installer:

Respond to the “Are you sure?” prompt.

When the extension installer starts, select the language and then click the “OK” button:

Click the “Next” button to accept the license terms and privacy statement (you read the license terms and privacy statement, didn’t you?):

Select target Visual Studio instance(s) and then click the “Install” button:

When the installation completes, click the “Restart” button:

After restarting, open Visual Studio 2026 Insider Community Edition, click File>Open>Project/Solution:

Browse to an SSIS solution file and click the “open” button:

If prompted, click the “Trust and Continue” button (if you, in fact, trust the folder, that is):

If all goes as planned (and hoped), the SSIS solution opens and you will be able to view SSIS packages:

If all goes really well, you’ll even be able to debug SSIS!

Conclusion

It’s cool to see SSIS support continues for the many Microsoft customers still using the platform for data integration.
