In this post I describe how to install SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) version 22, which is in preview at the time of this writing.

Get the Bits

To begin:

1. Visit the Microsoft Learn article titled Install SQL Server Management Studio
2. Click the link labeled “Download SSMS 22 Preview”:

Remember where you save the file:

Navigate to the file and open the installer:

Click “Yes” to allow this app to make changes to your device:

Click the “Continue” button so the Visual Studio Installer may update:

The Visual Studio Installer will download and install any required updates:

Once the Visual Studio Installer update completes, the SSMS installation details screen will display the Workloads tab:

1. I you want to work with SSIS, SSRS, and/or SSAS (I do!), check the checkbox on the “Business Intelligence” tile to view selected Business Intelligence component details
2. Click the “Install” button:

When the installation completes, you may click the “Launch” button to open SSMS v22 Preview 3:
