I’m excited to announce that book #3 for 2017 is available for pre-order at Amazon! Data Integration Life Cycle Management with SSIS: A Short Introduction by Example is a(nother) short-ish book (~112 pages) that offers insight into managing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) in an enterprise.
I wrote the book to demonstrate managing SSIS as it ships (out of the box) and the first half of the book covers some thoughts on source control, deployment, and configuration in the SSIS Catalog. It’s not exhaustive, but presents some options. I identify a few gaps and share some solutions I and others have thought of.
The second half of the book demonstrates some thoughts I have on closing said gaps and automating data integration with SSIS using Business Intelligence Markup Language (Biml) from Varigence. I built a collection of tools and utilities that I call the Data integration Lifecycle Management Suite. The tools include:
- Catalog Reports
- Catalog Browser
- SSIS Framework Community Edition
- Framework Browser
- SSIS Catalog Compare
- CatCompare
- BimlExpress Metadata Framework
I sell SSIS Catalog Compare and CatCompare at DILM Suite; Catalog Browser and Framework Browser are free; Catalog Reports and SSIS Framework Community Edition are free and open source.
At the time of this writing I am working on an update to the Catalog Compare bundle which include SSIS Catalog Compare – and Graphical User Interface (or GUI) – and CatCompare – a Command-Line Interface (or CLI). I hope to release the next versions before the end of 2017.
